For those interested, and indeed well reported elsewhere, the NY Metropolitan Opera has released the listing of next year’s season of Live in HD simulcast productions, as follows:
Tosca [Puccini], October 10 – Levine (c); Mattila, M. Álvarez, Uusitalo, Plishka
Aida [Verdi], October 24 – Gatti (c); Urmana, Zajick, Botha, Guelfi, Scandiuzzi, Kocán
Turandot [Puccini], November 7 – Nelsons (c); Guleghina, Poplavskaya, Giordani, Ramey
Les Contes d’Hoffmann [Offenbach], December 19 – Levine (c); Kim, Netrebko, Gubanova, Garanča, Villazón, Pape
Der Rosenkavalier [R. Strauss], January 9 – Levine (c); Fleming, Graham, Schäfer, Cutler, Allen, Sigmundsson
Carmen [Bizet], January 16 – Nézet-Séguin (c); Frittoli, Gheorghiu, Alagna, Kwiecien
Simon Boccanegra [Verdi], February 6 – Levine (c); Pieczonka, Giordani, Domingo, Morris
Hamlet [Thomas], March 27 – Langrée (c); Dessay, Larmore, Spence, Keenlyside, Morris
Armida [Rossini], May 1 – Frizza (c); Fleming, Brownlee, Ford, Zapata, Banks, van Rensburg
Even by the Met’s standards, there’s some real luxury casting here, and if anything it seems a stronger season than this year’s, so there’d be no hesitation in recommending any of these. It’s particularly nice to see the rarely-performed Armida of Rossini included, in what will also be the work’s Met premiere – with Renée Fleming as the eponymous sorceress, up against no less than six tenors…

“Tosca” is by Puccini, not Verdi.

Hi Fred –
It all depends on which country you’re in! In Ireland, we have so far only three screens showing the simulcasts (Dundrum and Swords in Co. Dublin, SGC Dungarvan in Co. Waterford), and links to those cinemas are on the Opera Ireland website at http://www.operaireland.com/index.jsp?p=94&n=119&a=0.
If you live elsewhere, then you should refer to the Met’s own site – the most relevant page seems to be http://www.metoperafamily.org/metopera/broadcast/hd_events_next.aspx. On the left-hand side of the page you’ll see a box marked “Buy HD Tickets Now” with links for the US and All other countries, which should lead you to the venue information you’re looking for. If you’ve time, there’s still one more in this year’s season to go, with Rossini’s La Cenerentola on this coming Saturday. I hope you find a screen near to where you are.

Where in Northern Ireland can I find out which cinemas screen metoperaHD? I have been searching the web site and can’t find anywhere. I live in Lisburn, Co.Antrim.

Hi Diane,
The relevant page on the Opera Ireland website is: http://www.operaireland.ie/index.jsp?p=119&n=162&a=0
This lists all the venues on the island of Ireland being used for this year’s season, though I’ve not seen anything to confirm which screens will be in use for 2010-11. The closest screen for you this year would be the Storm Cinema, Belfast, over by the Odyssey Arena.
I hope this helps!

Thanks. Yes, the ONLY screen in N.Ireland is indeed at The Storm Cinema inside The Odyssey – the very dickens to reach! I did get to see Lucia de Lamermoor -absolutely wonderful, outstanding in every way. There is no public transport to get one to The Odyssey area, which is a shame. And no publicity anywhere that I can find, about MetOpera HDLive.
